As you know, The Geeks have already held our October event with our Open Night at Hula Juice Bar, but we received such an exciting invitation from the team at One Square, the bar and restaurant at the Sheraton Hotel, that we couldn’t resist another!

Total Food Geeks are not strangers to One Square. The honourable Lunchquest has already written a very respectable review of their food and elegant surroundings and Danielle of Edinburgh Foody has a great write-up of dining at the pass but the hotel has a new Executive Chef and a new menu so we were happy to accept an invitation for…dum dum dum… #TFGMEETSONESQ!

This wonderful evening centred around 5 specially tailored courses selected from the new menu, each paired with a matching drink and all kicked off by our own private canapé class with the hotel’s new Executive Chef, Craig Hart.

 From the moment we were welcomed with a personalised gin and tonic to the last step over the threshold as we left, every member of staff treated us like royalty and at the same time made us feel completely relaxed throughout.

The expert service was matched only by the food. Our resident soup expert, Lunchquest, was very taken with both the gazpacho and the butternut squash soup. Both rated very highly on the soupometer! You can read all about the vegan options from our lovely Arianna who was in now way left out of the fun and full of praise for every aspect of the evening. And for a jealousy inducing detailed run down on all the non-veggie courses we’d recommend you read Caroline’s new post on Edinburgh Foody about the evening. For this Geek, the highlight was definitely the mini One Square Duck Burger of confit duck leg topped with foie gras and Posh Bird fried quail egg, perfectly paired with a glass of Louis Jadot Bourgogne Pinot Noir. It was certainly a struggle un-wedging ourselves from our seats by the end of the evening!

In addition to old friends we were joined by some new faces and were very happy to welcome the peeps from @Zurika, @EdinBlogger, @KeepCalmFannyOn, @Scotchunicorn, the other half of @Edinburghfoody and the lovely Aisling (@Aislingtho), who engineered the whole event and whom we have now adopted as one of our own (whether she likes it or not!). After such a pleasant experience I’m sure every one of us will be back to One Square soon.

After all that luxury, the Total Good Geeks will be rolling up our sleeves and getting involved in the worldwide Restaurant Day for our November event so watch this space!
